Expedited Site Characterization: Demonstration at St. Louis, Missouri

This demonstration was conducted August - September 1994 at the St. Louis Airport Site (SLAPS), a 21-acre area located just north of the St. Louis Airport. The SLAPS area has containing low-level radioactive contamination due to the past storage of uranium-processing residues from the DOE's nuclear weapons program.

The Department of Energy is involved in remediating the site as part of the FUSRAP program (Former Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program). While the Ames Lab ESC demonstration was independent of prior characterization work (done by Bechtel), the previous work provided a baseline for comparing data collected during the Ames ESC demonstration .
