- The National Technology Transfer Center (NTTC) contains links to over 300 federal government/agency home pages, as well as specific sublists for technology transfer resources, Requests for Proposals and "gateway" to information on environmental technology. A good one-stop shopping stop.

- The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) has established the Technology Information System (TIS) to help locate pertinent information on federal technologies and recent patents as well as locating requests for proposals.

- The US Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network is a collaborative effort among over 775 scientists and students and extends the opportunities and capabilities of the individual sites to promote synthesis and comparative research across sites and ecosystems, and among other related domestic and international research programs.
- The Center for Ecological Health Research is located at the University of California, Davis. It is one of four environmental research centers established in 1991 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (R819658 & R825433).
- Global Change Data and Information System (GCDIS).
- Institute for Global Communications site is a launching point into
EcoNet, PeaceNet, WomensNet and AntiRacismNet. EcoNet covers issues such as global
warming, water quality, environmental education, energy policy.

Databases Found On and Off the Net:
- REOPT (Electronic Encyclopedia of Remedial Action Options)
contains about 90
remediation technology descriptions developed at Pacific Northwest Laboratory, as well as applications and
regulatory
information for nearly 400 contaminants. ReOpt also gives
references where more
information can be found containing a particular technology. Each
profile contains a
flow diagram, description, engineering/designing parameters,
contaminant
applicability, data requirements, similar technologies, technical
restraints, regulatory
constraints, previous applications, etc. ReOpt is a commercialized
version of RAAS.

- PROTECH (Prospective Technology Communication System),
developed in support
of the DOE's Office of Technology Development (OTD), is a computer-
based
communication tool to describe innovative environmental cleanup
technologies. The
ProTech system contains information pertaining to six Integrated
Demonstration
Sites supported by the DOE OTD. Fact sheets on each technology
contain
evaluation criteria, including technical performance, cost, cleanup
time, ease of use,
regulatory acceptability, public acceptability, etc. Users can
compare technologies by
viewing any two of the evaluation criteria for the technologies on
the same screen.

- ENVTRD (Environmental Technologies Remedial Actions Data
Exchange or
Envirotrade) is designed to facilitate the transfer/exchange of EM
technologies for
domestic and international user groups (governments, industry,
academic-partnerships). User will be able to search the database and produce
ad-hoc reports
such as: available technologies for environmental restoration and
waste
management, status of a given technology, indexing technology
research sites, and
indexing restoration sites. The system supplies users with possible
matches
between worldwide site needs and technologies specific to their
queries.

- Technology Profile System is a database and computer
information system obtaining worldwide information on Environmental Management activities and needs,
using existing
information and databases developed by others to the maximum
extent possible.
The system allows identification of Environmental Management activities and
technologies in a country
and associated technology needs, and allows matching needs to
technologies on a
worldwide basis.

- RAPIC (Remedial Action Program Information Center) database is
a bibliographic
database containing relevant technical information pertaining to
scientific, technical,
legal, regulatory, financial, and social aspects of environmental
restoration work.
Obtained from domestic and worldwide sources, documents covered
in the database
include technical reports, progress reports, journal articles,
conference papers,
symposia proceedings, theses, books, patents, legislation,
regulations, and DOE
orders. Each record in the database provides a bibliographic
citation, and abstract,
and number of indexing data fields. Indexing fields consist of key
words, subject
categories, and geographic descriptions of the site.
The database
currently contains
over 10,000 records encompassing all aspects of DOE's
environmental restoration

- DROLS (Defense Research Development Testing & Evaluation On-line System) provides on-line access to the Defense Technical Information Center's data collection of DOD research and technology efforts in progress. report numbers, and funding sources. The system actually accesses three databases, including the Research & Technology Report Database and the Independent Research and Development Database.

- RAAS (Remedial Action Assessment System) contains

- ATTIC (The Alternative Treatment Technology Information
Center) is a collection of four databases accessed through an electronic Bulletin Board System. This includes the ATTIC database, RREL Treatability database, Technical Assistance database,

computer files and a messaging system which allows user to communicate and
request advice from each other. There is a system operator for seeking help.

- NTIS (National Technical Information System Bibliographic
Database) is the largest single source for public access to federally-produced information.
The database covers information on federally-generated machine-readable data files and software, U.S. government inventions available for licensing, reports on new technologies
developed by federal agencies, federally-generated translations, and

- OSTI (Office of Scientific and Technical Information)
maintains a database for all of the Department of Energy (DOE). The purpose of this database is to archive and
retrieve technical data, reports, journals, etc., generated by various
laboratories in the DOE complex. This system can be accessed remotely by DOE and contractors through modem. There are over a million technical reports archived
at OSTI.
This office provides an alternative to the National Technical Information Services (NTIS) for DOE and its contractors. Tracking Research in Progress (RIP) for the DOE is a
function of OSTI. DOE laboratories are required to provide
information to this office for include into the OSTI Database.
DOE Order 1430.1C, 2-27-92, Management of Scientific and Technical Information required that all DOE Department Elements and
DOE contractors involved in the creation of scientific and technical
information report all information used, developed, or accumulated to the Office of Technical Information (AD-21), Office of Information Resource Management.
