Calibration
The set of specifications, including tolerances, unique to a
particular design, version or application of a component or component
assembly capable of functionally describing its operation over its
working range.
Calibration drift
The change in measurement system output over a stated period of time
of normal continuous operation when the pollutant concentration at
the time of the measurement is the same known upscale value.
Calibration error
The difference between the pollutant concentration indicated by the
measurement system and the known concentration of the test gas
mixture.
CAO
Acronym for "Corrective Action Order".
Cap
A layer of clay, or other highly impermeable material installed over
the top of a closed landfill to prevent entry of rainwater and
minimize production of leachate.
CFC's
Chlorofluorocarbons - A family of inert, nontoxic and easily
liquefied chemicals used in refrigeration, air conditioning,
packaging, insulation, or as solvents and aerosol propellants.
Because CFC's are not destroyed in the lower atmosphere, they drift
into the upper atmosphere where their chlorine components destroy
ozone.
Continuous monitoring
The taking and recording of measurement at regular and frequent
intervals during operation of a facility.
