Baghouse
An air pollution abatement device used to trap particulate by
filtering gas streams through large fabric bags usually made of
glass
fibers
Baghouse filter
Large fabric bag, usually made of glass fibers, used to eliminate
intermediate and large (greater than 20 microns in diameter)
particles. This device operates in a way similar to the bag of an
electric vacuum cleaner, passing the air and smaller particulate
matte, while entrapping the larger particulates.
BAT
Acronym for "Best Available Technology".
Batch
The collection of a substance or a product of the same category
or
configuration, as designated by the Administrator in a test request,
from which a batch sample is to be randomly drawn and inspected to
determine conformance with acceptability criteria.
Batch sample
The collection of substances or products of the same category,
configuration or subgroup thereof which are drawn from a batch and
from which test samples are drawn.
BATEA
Acronym for "Best Available Technology Economically Achievable".
BCT
Acronyms for:
(1) Best Control Technology.
(2) Best Conventional Pollutant
Control Technology under section 304(b)(4) of the Clean Water
Act.
BDAT
Acronym for "Best Demonstrated Achievable (or Available) Technology".
BDT
Acronym for "Best Demonstrated Technology".
Beta particle
An elementary particle emitted by radioactive decay that may
cause
skin burns. It is halted by a thin sheet of metal.
